Violence Against Parents (VAP) has exponentially increased over the last years, taking up a special area on the complex domain of intrafamiliar violence. VAP has always existed, although linked to different problems, like severe psychopathology disorders and others. This new type of VAP does not show violence as a circumstance of a bigger problem; violence itself is indeed the central point of the matter. This article proposes an echosystemic understanding of VAP, which takes into consideration social, educational, individual and family factors. Once a definition of the concept is given, the variables related to the genesis and maintenance of this problematic are enumerated and described; paying special attention to those areas of family functioning which are affected, and to the relational dynamics of the core within these types of episodes have happened.
