Abstract

Using a newly established data source and a combination of techniques, this essay sheds new light on a topic in composition that has long been shrouded in the mystery of tradition. Both researchers and teachers of writing must rethink their usual set of beliefs about the nature and placement of the topic sentence in expository prose .
