Aim: Stature is one of the numerous data for identification. The stature prediction occupies relatively a central position in the identification necessitated by the medico legal experts or medical jurisprudence and also in the anthropological research. The present study examines relationship between stature, head length and head breadth among Indians. Methods: Stature, head length and head breadths of 160 South Indians and 100 North Indians were measured using standard anthropometric instruments. Results: Statistical analysis indicated that sex differences were significant for all measurements. These differences were insignificant when values were compared between subjects of the same sex in South Indians and North Indians. Independent linear regression equations for stature estimation were calculated. Correlation coefficients were found to be positive for estimation of stature from either head length or head breadth. Conclusion: From the present study it is concluded that cephalic dimensions can be used successfully to predict stature in a representative sample of Indian population.
