Observations of the co-evolution of society and organisation during the stages of modernity increase our insight into the premises of organisational legitimacy today, where continuous public relations processes have grown imperative to most organisations. The research programme of a reflective paradigm — based on a theoretical reconstruction of late modernity’s empirical ideals as reflection — analyses the interrelation between society’s constitution and organisational legitimisation. Since the principal conclusion is that ideals of organisational legitimacy are closely interrelated to a given society’s specific coordination processes, then it follows that such ideals differ in various regions of the world. It is, however, possible to uncover generic patterns by relating legitimating notions to a society’s constitution. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
