Abstract The papers in this volume address the influence of economic fluctuations upon mortality, fertility, and labor markets in the Latin America of the 1980s. Contributors attempt to distinguish short-term effects from long-term ones. Broader policy-related and institutional factors affecting the continent as a whole are examined alongside the demographic consequences of economic changes in individual countries.
