What is it about graduating from college and embarking upon a graduate program that should automatically make a student familiar with library reference tools? Each class level is expected to be more familiar with the li brary than the one preceding it, and librarians generally assume that the graduate student is familiar with the important reference works in his field of study. If data could be collected which shows lack of knowledge of reference tools vital to the success of a graduate student, something positive might be done to improve library orientation at the graduate level.
