The sandplay process of Anna Rose is unusual in that her seven trays, created over seven years— while illustrative of an individuation process—consist mostly of carefully sculpted sand, with just a single figure visible in the first and last trays. As is often true of clients suffering severe early childhood trauma, the trays appear barren and stark. However, they reveal a deep engagement with the unconscious, highlight her struggle with opposites, and with an astonishingly dynamic cohesiveness, progress toward the containment and safety of the positive feminine and culminate in the discovery of the Pearl of Great Price.
