The majority of research into intimate partner violence (IPV) intervention has focused on male perpetrators. This chapter reviews the evidence in this domain, and therefore provides a focus on male offenders. It describes the interventions used in the rehabilitation of batterers, and the transtheoretical frameworks that shape these interventions. The two dominant interventions sanctioned by most states are the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and feminist psychoeducation approach known as the Duluth model. The chapter also analyses the efficacy of therapeutic strategies such as motivational interviewing (MI) and Risk–Need–Responsivity (RNR)-based approaches that improve existing batterer interventions. Additionally, it discusses a relatively new classification system of batterers, and how this classification system could shape the future of batterer rehabilitation.
