In a recent series of papers, Martin and Byrne (2003a, 2003b) considered aspects of the development EU countries have made towards Information Society status. In this paper we attempt to place Australia's position on the Information Society spectrum. We consider four 'Information Society' indices and identify Australia's ranking on each compared to a basket of countries made up of EU countries, leading Asian countries, New Zealand and the United States. We build a single index encompassing the four indices in an attempt to establish Australia's relative position among the thirteen countries appearing in all four indices.
