AbstractThe influence of information technology in the consumption of paper and cardboard in the Brazilian market and in the world is recognized. On one hand, TI allegedly tends to reduce consumption of paper with the advent, for example, of the e-paper, the increasing use of electronic mail, the use of electronic files and more. On the other hand, greater access to information has increased the volume of impressions and increased consumption of equipment - which necessarily use packaging based on paper and cardboard - and may have caused a change in habits, resulting in a higher consumption of paper.Without the intention to detail the changes in habits and whys of shifts in average consumer, this article drew mathematical studies between increased use of IT and the consumption of paper and cardboard in the Brazilian market. The results indicates that the use of IT did not bring benefit to the reduction of paper consumption in the market, even considering only paper roles impacted by the use of IT.
