Abstract

this paper, I make a rather different starting assumption that arbitrary lexical paradigm gaps may be caused by a variety of factors, and that different causes for uncertainty may correspond to different types of grammatical failure. Thus, detailed studies of individual cases are needed before we can decide whether or not all cases may be subsumed under a single analysis
