Abstract Founded in 1845, the Southern Baptist Convention currently boasts over 16 million members in more than 42,000 churches, marking it as the largest Protestant denomination in the United States. Conservative in theology, congregational in polity, and cooperative in missions, the SBC fields over 10,000 missionaries globally — approximately half in North America and half in international fields. The convention also operates six seminaries, a publishing and resource entity, a financial resources group, and the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, which addresses moral, social, and public policy issues.
