La gestion au prisme de ses instruments. Une analyse généalogique des approches théoriques fondées sur les instruments de gestion

(VF)Les approches théoriques par les instruments de gestion connaissent un renouveau dans différentes disciplines en sciences sociales. Ces approches ont pour point commun de considérer les instruments de gestion comme point d'entrée pour étudier l’action organisée. L'article introduit des éléments de cadrage permettant de distinguer la notion d'instrument de gestion de celles d'outil ou de dispositif. Il propose ensuite une généalogie de ces approches pour évaluer l'originalité des développements contemporains. Il conclut enfin sur l'intérêt d'élargir l'agenda de recherche en sciences de gestion audelà de la micro-analyse des instruments locaux pour étudier la conception de dispositifs stratégiques multi-niveaux constitués de l'agencement d'acteurs et d'instruments.(VA)Instrument-based approaches of management have recently gained increased interest in various social science disciplines. These approaches propose to study organized action through the lens of managerial instruments created for this purpose. First, this article defines the notion of management instruments, which differs from the notion of managerial “tools” and organizational arrangements. Then, a genealogy of these theoretical approaches is proposed to capture the novelty of the recent developments. Finally, the article concludes on the importance of broadening the research agenda, reaching beyond micro-analyses of local instruments to study the design of strategic and organizationnal settings.
