The Recovery Stress Questionnaire for Athletes (RESTQ-Sport) was developed to measure the simultaneous frequency of the actual stress with the frequency of recovery-associated activities. With 19 scales, the RESTQ-Sport assesses the potential stressful and restful events and their subjective consequences during the past three days/ nights. The objectivities of this study were: made an appropriated translation of the RESTQ-Sport and begin the validation process for Portuguese language analyzing the internal consistency (reliability) with Alpha Cronbach Index, and checking the correlations between the RESTQ-Sport scales and between the RESTQ-Sport scales and another questionnaire related to stress: The Profile of Mood States (POMS) with Pearson Correlation. 134 subjects participated in this study. This study has substantial reliability in 16 of 19 RESTQ-Sport scales (Alpha Cronbach > 0,70), and excellent results in the correlations tests for RESTQ-Sport scales and for RESTQ-Sport and POMS scales. These results are similar with previous validations of the RESTQ-Sport in German and English languages. It could be concluded that the RESTQ-Sport can be use as an important tool for the assessment and prevention of overtraining and burnout in Brazilian athletes.
