This chapter summarizes major topics of developmental research in the broadly defined area of “children and the law”. We focus on a variety of issues that arise when children enter the forensic arena and that have been addressed by social scientists. These topics include accuracy, suggestibility, and credibility of children's testimony as well as the empirical basis of implementing specific procedures when interviewing children. Because of social and legal concerns, much of the review focuses on younger children and on issues related to sexual abuse.
