This study is based on a comparison of the resanctioning rates of 29,000 offenders who had received a caution in either Thames Valley (which used restorative cautions) or two comparison forces (which used traditional cautions). The study found no evidence to suggest that restorative cautioning had resulted in a statistically significant reduction in either the overall resanctioning rate or the seriousness or frequency of offending.
