This paper summarizes cross-cultural studies of cognitive skills, emotions, and self-images found in responses to drawing tasks by children, adolescents, and adults. Its aim is to find out whether cultural differences and similarities in scores on the Silver Drawing Test (SDT) can illuminate cultural preferences and contribute to cultural practices. In Brazil, Russia, Estonia, and the USA, investigators used the SDT to develop norms and assess age and gender differences. In Thailand, an investigator used the assessment with delinquent adolescents to determine the effectiveness of an art therapy program. In Australia, an investigator used it to assess cognitive skills and gender differences and to develop course methodology. After summarizing the studies, this paper suggests implications of their findings for therapeutic and educational practices.
