The presenters of a program at the 2002 Music Library Association conference in Las Vegas summarize their presentation on the rich resources some non-music sources can provide for musical research. Also covered were a few frequently overlooked printed tools in a typical music reference collection. Electronic databases highlighted here include online encyclopedias, article indexes such as PsycINFO (for music therapy, musical ability, etc.), ERIC (music education and more), Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (vocal production), EBSCOhost and FirstSearch (which include some music periodicals), and many, many more seemingly unlikely places to look when helping patrons at the reference desk with their music research projects.
