Abstract

As more sophisticated searching capabilities become avail able on library online public access catalogs, librarians must wonder whether providing them is worthwhile. What do users and nonusers of capabilities such as keyword and Boolean searching actually know about how to use them? Do they know any of their intricacies? Have they absorbed incorrect information? This study attempts to begin pro viding answers to these questions in the context of an aca demic library that uses the NOTIS (Northwestern Online Total Integrated System) online catalog.
