Using recent Canadian national data, this study examines the remarriage experience of women and men after they terminated a first marriage in the context of a social exchange model. Our results suggest that the hazard rate of remarriage varies, depending particularly on type of marital dissolution, age at marital disruption, religion and the marriage market. The analysis shows marked gender differences in the rate of remarriage. The implications for these results are discussed.
