Chlorine Dioxide Dry Fumigation in Special Collection Libraries

Abstract

The University of Oklahoma Libraries has used chlorine dioxide to successfully control mold in the stacks since 1991. A new dry fumigation method has been developed and tested recently in two special collections stack areas. The dry fumigation application with chlorine dioxide reduces the amount of water added to the environment in a standard fumigation process, thereby minimizing additional harmful humidity fluctuations.
