------------------------------------------------------------------------ The concept of rubbish is defined and, following an initial review of the problem of rubbish management in Classical cities, this study uses the few available sources of data to analyze the systems used in some of the towns of Roman Hispania for the treatment of urban rubbish. It is observed how, from the moment of its foundation, the urban centres enjoyed adequate systems for most fotseeable circumstances. The different models of management identified here developed in response to topographic and demographic circumstances, and developed in tandem with the profound transformation of the Hispanic cities themselves.
