Abstract

This revised edition gives a comprehensive overview of the management and preservation of information in both traditional and electronic formats. It takes account of recent research in some of the more traditional areas but also gives detailed consideration to the technical and professional issues which arise from the need to preserve electronic data and to create and preserve electronic data archives for the future. This focus reflects the changing concerns of academics and practitioners towards emphasis on access to information rather than preservation of materials, permanence of electronic data and media, selection of electronic information for preservation, dissemination of and access to preserved electronic media, implementation of access policies, issues raised by electronic data archives and the extensive use of refreshment and surrogacy and digitization. The book is intended for students and practitioners.
