Abstract

El objetivo del presente estudio fue in vestigar la relacion entr e el optimismo disposicional y las dif erentes estrateg ias de afrontamiento. Aunque el optimismo disposicional, valorado por el Test revisado de Orientacion V ital (LOT-R) se ha asociado fr ecuentemente con estr ategias de afrontamiento, algunos autores han encontrado que su poder pr edictivo desaparece cuando se controla los efectos de tercer as variables, sobre todo, neuroticismo o afectividad negativa. Este estudio en el que se han utilizado 415 sujetos investiga la capacidad de una medida de optimismo disposicional para predecir las estr ategias de afrontamiento. Los participantes cumplimentar on tambien medidas de neur oticismo y de af ectividad negativa. Los analisis revelaron que el optimismo disposicional era un predictor significativo respecto a las estr ategias de afrontamiento aun despues de controlar los efectos del neur oticismo y de la afectividad negativa. De este forma, el Test de Orientacion V ital parece poseer una adecuada v alidez predictiva. Dispositional optimism as a predictor of strategies coping. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between dispositional optimism and coping str etegies. Although dispositional optimism as assessed by the Life Orientation Test-Revised LOT-R) has often been associa ted with coping strategies, some researchers have found that its predictive power dissapears after contr olling the effects of third variables, mainl y, neuroticism and negative affectivity. This study used 415 subjects and investigated the ability of a r evised measure of dispositional optimism to predict coping strategies. Participants al so completed measures of neuroticism and negative affectivity. Analyses revealed that dispositional op timism was a significant pr edictor of coping stretegies even when the effects of neuroticism and negative affectivity were controlled. Overall, the Life Orientation Test-Revised does appear to possess ade quate predictive validity.
