The third volume in this innovative series examines the realm of environmental participation - the diversification of roles that gives much more influence over our surroundings to some groups than to others. The papers collected here explore differences between the culture of designers and users, and the ways in which these differences are beginning to be addressed. Environmental participation is a means by which users can inform decision-makers of their aspirations, and also gain a richer understanding of the environmental shaping process. As public awareness grows, regarding environmental/planning issues, citizen involvement, and its impact on design considerations, takes on greater importance. The authors examine this broadening concept of environmental participation, and study the mechanisms that are implicit in participation procedures.
