This chapter discusses concepts and biological, psycho-social and bio-psycho-social theories of ageing. It explains how personal factors such as age, gender, personal beliefs, coping styles and attitudes, education, social background and life experience influence the ageing process. The chapter also explains how the transitions more apparent in older age such as retirement, frailty and end of life occur within an occupationally just framework. The ICF (WHO 2001) identifies that the personal factors contribute to how an individual functions. How occupational justice for older people can be challenged or maintained is discussed.
