Aiming to unveil maps as cultural products, in this article, we reflect about the construction of images resulting from the apprehension of meanings and spatial subjectivities, reflecting the sociocultural\nunderstanding of the individuals that produced them. Following this path means unveiling the significant marks of the representations and link them to sociocultural aspects. Aiming to discuss maps as\nsociocultural constructions, we present our reflections in two lines: the image as means of information and communication that constitutes a trajectory through cartographic representations (modeling, semiology,\ncognition and social semiotics) and the construction of images as a result of the apprehension of the signified and the subjectivities attested by mental maps.
