A lot of literature on ur \nban development in developing \ncountries has entirely focused on the nexus between rapid \nurbanization, Gross Geographic Pr \noduct (GGP) and poverty growth \nwith little research that demonstr \nates what this impacts on urban \nsustainability especially with incr \neasing slums in rapidly urbanizing \nAfrican countries. Available research has focused entirely on \nincreasing poverty level in urban \nAfrica and its mitigation without a \nclear direction on what this means to slums improvement and urban \nsustainability. This papers aims to \ngive a conceptual analysis that \nwill help to understand the dynamics of urban sustainability and \nslums development. The historical \nperspectives and current realities \nof Kibera slums in \nNairobi are reviewed.
