This Internet book aims to help school media specialists, teachers, parents and home-schoolers get children learning online. It teaches educators how to navigate the Net - and provides sample lesson plans that will enable children to learn too. It also contains a guide to the best educational and recreational Internet resources for kids, including information on: setting up international pen pal programmes; finding out about children's book authors and illustrators and even writing to them online; making virtual field trips to museums; using Net information (demographics, geography, etc.) to design and develop maps; and sharing interests (like chess, music, or reading) with peers through discussion groups. The book assumes no prior technical knowledge, and walks readers through many details of teaching children how to connect with the Internet. Screen captures of actual online sessions that can be copied for use in classroom presentations complete this guide that is useful for anyone with an Internet connection who works with children.
