About the Series: Research at the Department of Criminology began in 1992. It is empirically orientated and deals with fundamental criminological questions as well as more application-oriented issues in the fields of the administration of juvenile justice and the penal system. Furthermore, (legally-) comparative studies are conducted in the fields of criminology, juvenile justice and the penal system, especially regarding European countries. These internationally comparative studies comprise the region of the Baltic Sea, especially and more specifically Scandinavia and the Baltic States as well as Central and Eastern European countries (see the „Mare Balticum“ project on young people’s experiences of violence as well as on issues regarding the prison system and human rights issues). The empirical questions are in the context of fundamental issues of Criminal Justice concerning the organisation and efficiency of private and state-based social control. This also incorporates victimological questions. The following scientific employees are currently active at the department: Bastian Dorenburg/D (Lawyer); Dr. Kirstin Drenkhahn/D (Lawyer); Bernd Geng, M.A./D (Sociologist); Joanna Grzywa/PL (Lawyer); Phil Horsfield/GB (Lawyer/LL.M.
