Specific learning disabilities are a real society issue : indeed in France 25% of children with school difficulties suffer from this kind of developmental disorder. That's why the medical system, the scientists and the politicians have been paying more and more attention to the problem in the last ten years. But these troubles are not as well medicalized as they should be. Screening and monitoring are unfortunatelly not often well organized because these diagnosis are really hard to do and take several years : many developmental disorders, other psychiatric comorbidities and social problems are often linked. A survey of doctors in the Chambery area in Savoie between november 15th and december 15th 2008 shows that general practitioners seem to be less aware of the frequency and the impact of specific learning disabilities than specialists (pediatric and school doctors). Then all practitioners mention the difficulties when they're faced with these troubles : a lack of medical knowledge and of patient management consensus, a lack of information about structures, financial and material means. They also complain firstly about the shorter and shorter time they are granted to take cognitive tests, organize exams and question specialized practitioners ; secondly about the lack of communication between medical, paramedical practitioners and school teachers. For all these reasons, most of them think it would be really useful to set up a network between all these protagonists in Savoie, as well as in other towns in France, to help doctors and teachers coordinate a better management of children suffering from specific learning disabilities, who have to get a specific reeducation and have special educational needs.
