A sample of nurses was studied to analyze patterns of use of resources for patient care and educational information. Human and print resources were preferred over electronic resources, reportedly because of convenience, reliability, and ease of use. Insufficient skills, training, and time were top barriers to the use of electronic resources. Lack of knowledge about library resources and librarians' services contributed to low library usage. Hospital librarians are uniquely trained and strategically located to support nurses' information retrieval. A survey of hospital librarians revealed valuable services offered for nurses, and provided tips for health science librarians to effectively market themselves.
