Abstract

Neste texto, retomamos discussões labovianas sobre o paradoxo do gênero em fenômenos de variação e mudança linguística. Tomamos como base principal pesquisas sobre a alternância entre tu/você nas regiões Sul, Norte, Nordeste, Sudeste e Centro-Oeste do Brasil. Ao final, propomos que o efeito do gênero é orientado pelo princípio marcação.
