At the end of the Middle Ages, the city of El Puerto de Santa Maria became the Earldom of the house of Medinaceli, which carried out a magni- ficent artistic patronage since then until its incorporation into the Spanish Crown in 1729. This paper aims at clarifying the different residences that the Dukes of Medinaceli had in the city until definitive construction of their palace between the of 16 th century and the beginning of the 17 th century. In addition to this, its author analyses the unknown proyect by Vicente Acero for the remodelling of the Duke's palace and outlines very briefly the archi- tectural development of that master of the Barroque.
