Very few studies examined how divorce affects indi- viduals' relationships with their former in-laws. In this study the normative aspect of this relationship, the actual contact, and the nature of support obtained from former in-laws were explored. Data obtained through in-depth interviews indicated that the quantity and the quality of the interaction between former spouses and their for- mer in-laws depended on the quality and quantity of this relationship before the separationldivorce. Respondents' actual behavior was in agreement with their own norms but not with the perceived societal ones. The quality of the relationship established with in-laws during the marriage also affected asking and receiving support from former in-laws.
