The aim of this paper is to analyze the representation of Technology and Science (16th-18th centuries) in the canvases of the Prado Museum of Madrid. This study can show us the reception of the New Science in the Spanish Empire, because the nucleus of the Prado Museum is the Royal Collection, which started to increase significantly under Habsburg and Bourbon monarchs. The research leads to two main conclusions. First, it points to an experimentalist view of Science: science is a construction with instruments, apparatus, machines and other technical devices. Second, it shows a greater degree of scientific interest in Spain than has hitherto been assumed.
