Within the substantial body of work examining young people's information-seeking behavior, little research has specifically investigated youngsters' use of serials. However, a recent project undertaken in England into the information universes of four- to eighteen-year-olds has revealed many patterns in relation to this issue. Most notably, the study found little consultation of serials by young people for academic work and although their use to meet recreational needs was greater, even in this context the Internet was exploited more. Serials in libraries were seldom examined. The study findings have implications for information skills teaching and the treatment of serials in libraries.
