This paper includes a brief review of a past study of children's drawings and a discussion of a new measurement and research instrument, Clark's Drawing Abilities Test (CDAT). The specific use of CDAT as a screening and identification instrument for high ability art students is examined together with significant findings on its relationship to scores on Children's Embedded Figures Test (CEFT) and to teachers' rankings of students' abilities. General use of the instrument as an indicator of ability levels for all students is discussed briefly.
