The genesis of this Amerasia Journal edition entitled “Towards a Third Literature: Chinese Writing in the Americas” is from July 2009 symposium at Nanjing University, “The International Conference on Chinese American Literature,” which was co-sponsored by Cheng Aimin, School of Foreign Studies, Nanjing University, and Jinqui Ling, Departments of English and Asian American Studies, University of California, Los Angeles.
