Family photography, contrary to first impressions, is not a spontaneously undertaken activity. It is a structured activity, if only through the choice of camera, of the moments photographed or of the photographs put in the album. It requires, as a result, a director. The article explores family photography through the lens of the gender of the person involved. The article questions, as well, whether the digital experience will change this gendered division of tasks.
