A dictionary of plant lore.

Abstract

From elderflower wine (notable for keeping flu at bay), to plants which forecast the weather (Pennywort and Scarlet Pimpernel), this dictionary provides a comprehensive account of British and Irish plant-lore. Drawing on previously published work and an extensive range of recently collected material, it provides an accurate and colourful account of the plant lore, past and present, of the British Isles. It covers all aspects of the folklore of plants, including: superstitions, traditional customs, herbal remedies, folksong and children's games.
