Elaborado exclusivamente a partir de fuentes primarias, el presente articulo reconstruye la biografia y la produccion artistica de Eloy Palacios, asi como los comentarios criticos que dichos trabajos merecieron en su momento. Esa reconstruccion arqueologica de la vida, obra y fortuna critica del mas conspicuo escultor venezolano del siglo XIX corrige no pocos errores que todavia hoy figuran en la historia “oficial” del arte nacional, y llena incontables vacios y silencios sobre la trayectoria de este importante creador de nuestro pais. Elaborated only from primary documents, this paper reconstructs the biography and the artistic production of Eloy Palacios, as well as the contemporary critical comments on such production. This archeological reconstruction of the life, work and critical fortune of the most conspicuous Venezuelan sculptor of the Nineteenth Century correct quite a lot of errors which are still installed in the “official” history of national art. It also fills uncountable gaps and silences on the trajectory of this important creator of our country. Cette reconstruction archeologique de la vie, de l'oeuvre et des critiques qu'elle suscita, du plus illustre sculpteur venezuelien du XIX siecle, corrige des nombreuses erreurs qui figurent actuellement dans l'histoire officielle de l'art national, et comble d'innombrablesvides et silences de la trajectoire de cet important createur de notre pays.
