This paper contains six sections. After the introduction, Part II briefly describes the history of the pension system in Argentina, its reform in 1994, and its performance since then. Part III presents a short description of the economic crisis, including some of its fiscal and financial aspects and their influence on the pension system. Part IV presents what appear as the most important implications in the short and long term of the crisis on the pension system. Part V develops some ideas on pension policy strategy as a basis for a potential redesign of the system, while Part VI concludes.
