Science production is one of the critical factors for country\ndevelopment. In Latin America, science development\nindicators in terms of publications and impact are\ntraditionally far from the standards in countries with\nfurther scientific and technological development. These\nindicators, both in general and in Psychology, were\nevaluated in this study, through an analysis of Latin-\nAmerican productivity of scientific articles between\n1996 and 2008 in Scopus and Web of Science databases.\nMacro-trends that guided the development of science and\nPsychology in countries and institutions were identified, as\nthe scientific impact of the publications. Results suggest\nthat Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Colombia have\nthe best indicators in terms of production and impact,\nboth in science and Psychology. Chile, Argentina and\nBrazil are the most productive countries per million\ninhabitants.
