Abstract

ABSTRACT Semarang as a capital of Central Java has rapidly developed in physical buildings, is indicated by mainly the increase of to the commercial building, such as supermarket, office building, and mall in its prototype building. This form usually spread out on corridor along commercial area within many functions. To touch the objectivity, it is used the stratified random sampling technique. The respondent are architect (the people which architecture background), ordinary people and settlers, who are living or work on location every day. The number of samples were taken proportional, and used area sampling, The analyzing technique which is used frequency distributions analysis and serial vision graphic analysis. We have found that: • The negative effect signage on (commercial corridor) visual aesthetic, all degradation. They in order are unity, proportion, rhythm, scale, color and lighting. • From serial vision graphic analysis indicated the sequence phenomena's, such as focal point, occupied territory, deflection, closure, fluctuation, punctuation, trees on value center, here and there, publicity and multiple views. • Based in functions signage give positive effect to the vehicles. From this study, it can be concluded that the exist of signage on Agus Salim corridor dominated by commercial identity, brought negative effect to aesthetic visual, and based on its functions signage gives significant positive effect to the riders with vehicles. Therefore, the exist of signage still be needed on. The signage design (especially commercial identity) is needed for urban design aesthetic so there will be synergy between aesthetic, so there will be synergy between aesthetic townscape and economic interest.
