Objective: To analyze the association of certain familiar functionality for parents and their teenage children, by scoring the asf-e scale. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 220 families with teenagers with children between 13 and 18 years, linked to an educational insti-tution of Neiva (Colombia) on 2012. Two instruments for the collection of information were used: a survey of socio-demographic data and the Scale for the Assessment of Family Functionality asf-e. Results: No significant difference was found in the score made by parents and children, since the low level of functionality were placed 68,6% and 69% respectively, while the average was 28,2% and 30,5%. Conclusion: Families with teen-agers-subject of study have a predominant family level functionality at a low level, reflected in inadequate substitution of affective demands of young people. Statistically significant association between perceived family functioning children was found with respect to the parent or guardian
