Following a detailed analysis of the hypotheses proposed by various authors who have discussed social and political organization in the nuragic period, the author analyzes the social structures that underly these hypotheses and the material culture correlates that are connected with them. After demonstrating that these social structures are not supported by the archaeological record and determining that previously proposed models are not applicable to the Sardinian case study particularly the static models of evolutionary anthropology the author uses archaeological data to construct a new approach founded on the internal dynamics of nuragic social reproduction.
