The paper reports the views of carers on transition \nto employment, college or other services for young \npeople with learning disabilities (LD). The research \ndraws on interviews with 87 carers in six areas of \nthe U.K. conducted over a period of 12 months. The \nresearch found that advice to carers from careers \nservices did not successfully cover employment as an \noption, whereas advice from employment services did. \nCarers did aspire to their young people getting a paid \njob as a next step, but follow-up interviews showed \nthe majority went to college. The results suggest that \nemployment organizations need to be involved earlier \nin the transition process if young people and carers \nare to be fully informed of their options.
