One of the great embarrassments \nconfronting the art world in the postcolonial \ncontext is the recent history of the \nexclusion of much of the world’s ‘artistic’ \nproduction from the hallowed walls of the fine \nart galleries of the West (Sally Price’s ‘civilised \nplaces’). One might ask: how was it that it \nwas excluded for so long and who is to blame \nfor keeping all this art out? However, rather \nthan attributing blame, it is much more interesting \nto analyse the historical process of its \ninclusion.
