The new scientific discipline of psychologic (PL) is introduced. PL is an explication and formalization of the basic conceptual structure of psychology. The current version contains 26 axioms, 83 definitions, and more than 150 corollaries and theorems. The formalization allows one to distinguish between the a priorilnoncontingent and the empiricall contingent and hence to discover and prevent pseudoempirical research. This is research attempting to test a priori and necessarily true propositions empirically. Nine cases ofpseudoempirical research are presented. It is also argued that there can be no general and empirical psychological laws, only local, historically determined regularities. The selection and evaluation of concepts and definitions in PL are assumed to take place through discussions within the scientific community, and empirical research is seen as irrelevant to this process. Several objections to PL are discussed. Finally, the implications of the new disciplinefor publication policies andfor the training ofpsychologists are mentioned.
